Long Island Improved is the most common and widely adapted open pollinated variety that originated in the 1890s. Compact semi-upright plants grow up to 24 inches tall and produce from 50 to 100 dark-green   tight heads that average 1.3 inches in diameter. Relative maturity is 80 to 115 days from sowing.
